Description

A Kutsab (Tibean: sku tshab),  ‘representative’ — is a statue made in the likeness of a Buddha, meditation deity, or great master. These images are used as objects of inspiration and a source of blessing for practitioners of the Vajrayana school of Buddhism.

About 25 Kutsabs of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) were made during his stay in Tibet, some by the Master himself. A portion of these were hidden as Terma and later discovered by the emanations of the twenty-five disciples and king Trisong Detsen. These incredibly sacred images were made out of sacred substances and relics, and blessed by Guru Padma himself to act as his representatives in the future, bestowing blessings upon all those who come in contact with them.

About these images, Tulku Thondup Rinpoche writes:

Kutsabs are the most important and rare terma images of Guru Padmasambhava, blessed as his own representatives by the Guru himself. Generally, there are hundreds of terma images of him, but according to many Nyingma scriptures there are only twenty-five kutsab images.

We at Future Alchemy are very fortunate to have received a beautiful, perfect, and blessed reproduction of one of these extremely rare statues. Using high-quality modern molding technology, we have made a few replicas of this image, and filled them with an extraordinary collection of sacred relics. All monies from the sale of these images will go to help the Buddhist meditation center Chönyi Ling to spread the teachings of the Vajrayana, bringing teachers from Bhutan, Tibet, India and Nepal; teaching meditation; building stupas,; and supporting practitioners in meditation retreat. Primarily, these funds are hand-carried to Kham, Tibet, where they are offered to Terton Rinpoche that his teachings and activities may spread.

The materials used to fill and bless these statues include:

Ringsel of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Ringsel of Chöying Dorje Lama Norsok Rinpoche, Flesh of a Brahmin born seven times revealed as a terma substance by the great Terton King Padma Lingpa, hair of living siddha Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche, The famous Black Pills of HH 16th Karmapa, Robe of Nyala Pema Dudul (attained rainbow body – 19th century), Salt from the Kudung of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Hair of Terton Tsezang Rinpoche, Dromtse Rilbu Terma Pills, Black Hayagriva Terma Pills, Hair of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Hair from lynx skirt worn by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche while in retreat, Rakta made by Terton Chokgyur Lingpa, Salt from the Kudung of HH 16th Karmapa, “Self Arising Body” substance of Guru Rinpoche from Drak Yangdzong in Tibet, Magnetizing pills from Terma of Changchub Dorje, Liberation Upon Tasting Pills of various Lamas, Chulen from Ju Mipham Rinpoche, Chulen from Chatral Rinpoche, Water and sand from Lake Manasarovar, Magnetizing pills from Terton Osel Dorje Rinpoche, Bodhicitta of Guru Rinpoche, Bodhicitta of Yeshe Tsogyal, Mani Pills from HH Dalai Lama, magnetizing pills of Kurukulle. In addition to the relics and other substances listed on the PDF below, these statues also contain earth and stones from the holy mountain of Wu Tai Shan in Northern China, the earthly home of the Bodhisattva Manjushri, collected by hand on a recent trip to the mountain by your friends here at Future Alchemy. Perhaps most important of these is sand from the cave of Vimalamitra, a place where this great Indian siddha is still believed to dwell.

In addition to the above collection of sacred relics, each statue also contains a small amount of perhaps the most impressive treasury of relics ever put together in one place. The Wish Fulfilling Relic Collection is detailed in the attached PDF file. Considering the incredibly diverse range of relics and holy substances included in these statues, they are completely unique.
