Jin Xuan Oolong is a Camellia Sinesis varietal developed in the late 1980s at the Taiwan Tea Agricultural Research Center. Sometimes referred to as “Taiwan #12”, this tea originally took the market by storm with a light, creamy flavor that was completely unmatched.
Unfortunately, in a bid to enhance the creaminess, which is naturally brought about through a special roasting process, unscrupulous tea dealers took to artificially enhancing their teas with additives. This negatively impacted the popularity of the tea in Taiwan, which actually benefited those who like the tea by bringing its price down.

The highest quality forms of this tea are not artificially enhanced, and these are the varieties that we offer. The fragrances are also light and complex. Each pot and steep can produce a slightly different fragrance. At times, it’s flowery with a buttery finish. It can also give off an intense fragrance almost like perfume but this is difficult to extract consistently.
Our Jin Xuan is grown in Chiayi County, in the Ali Shan district of Southwestern Taiwan. It has the typical green, crisp, notes with a creamy texture that marks good Jin Xuan. A slight sweetness sets off the buttery quality of the tea. Delicious.
