Description

In 2003 I was staying at the Kela Monastery founded by Chokgyur Lingpa in Kham, Eastern Tibet, in order to receive the empowerments of the Chokling Tersar. This visionary cycle of meditation teachings in more than 30 volumes was revealed in the 19th century by the great-grandfather of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, and has become an important source of inspiration and accomplishment in the Nyingma and Kagyu traditions.

Perhaps the most important treasure text (terma) revealed by Chokgyur Lingpa (together with Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo) is the Dzogchen Desum, a collection of histories, prayers and meditation texts associated with the early masters of the Dzogchen lineage. This unique cycle of teachings was revealed in 1857. While we were visiting the monastery, the incarnation of Chokgyur Lingpa showed us a statue of Guru Padmasambhava which Chokgyur Lingpa is said to have revealed with the Desum cache of treasure. Aspirations I made at that time to make reproductions of this statue have finally come to fruition, and the final product is pictured above – now in its second incarnation.

These statues are made from a resin composite, and are filled with relics, incense, mantras and texts according to the traditional instructions of the lineage. They are completely unique, and not even the holders of the Chokling lineage we approached outside of Tibet had seen or even heard of this statue. A limited number of these statues are available.

All funds raised through the sale of these images will go to help our center, Chönyi Ling, to spread the teachings of Buddhism; to bring teachers from Bhutan, Tibet, India and Nepal; to teach meditation; build stupas; support practitioners in meditation retreat; and especially to help spread the lineage of the Chokling Tersar.

If you are interested in ordering a number of these statues for use in your center, please contact us at info@futurealchemy.com
