Description
Black Manjushri, also known as Yamantaka or Vajrabhairava, is an important deity of the Tantric Pantheon in Tibet. Meaning ‘Conqueror of Death’, Yamantaka is the wrathful, or energetic form of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. As such, he acts to destroy the obstacles to attaining enlightenment and provides a means for overcoming death – in the sense of exiting the painful round of samsaric rebirth.
While we were on pilgrimage at Wu Tai Shan in 2018, Terton Rinpoche revealed a practice of Black Manjushri as a Terma (Dharma treasure). These pills were made from many different holy substances, some collected by hand at Wu Tai Shan, some given me by the Terton himself others gathered during the last 30 years from various masters. They were then blessed through the use of this practice. Several million mantras were recited during the consecration process.
Like other rilbu (pills) of this type, they may be kept on one’s shrine, worn around the neck for protection, used to bless statues or stupas, extracted in alcohol which can then be imbibed, or eaten. The process of “ingesting blessings” in this way can bring about a reduction of one’s negative karmic patterns, deeper states of meditative absorption and increased insight and should help to remove the obstacles to a long, healthy, prosperous and beneficial life.
These are pictures of Yamantaka’s earthly home, Wu Tai Shan.
Note: Each packet contains three (3) pills.
