Spagyric Tincture of Ashwagandha

ASHWAGANDHA (also known as winter cherry and Indian ginseng) is one of the most revered and powerful herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. Deservedly renowned as a general energy-promoting and disease-preventing tonic, and for its restorative benefits, ashwagandha has traditionally been utilized in order to help increase vitality and strengthen the immune system (including after illness). Ashwagandha has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, being used to treat various rheumatologic problems as well as urino-genital, gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections. It is also an adaptogen (i.e. it ‘adapts’ to the body’s specific needs based on health condition and gender) that helps to protect the body against physical, mental and/or emotional stress, by modifying the metabolism and other bodily processes. Like many adaptogens, ashwagandha improves cell replenishment, which in turn reduces fatigue symptoms and exhaustion, while increasing the resilience of the body and imparting more stamina for physical activities.

There is recent evidence that ashwagandha can help to enhance cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, relieve fatigue, reduce the negative effects of stress, treat anxiety and insomnia, improve quality of life, reduce cholesterol, regulate blood sugar (and hence suppress sugar cravings), stimulate and regulate the thyroid, prevent cataracts, and slow tumour growth. Research shows ashwagandha may be a promising alternative for cancer treatment and prevention. Ashwagandha appears to show positive effects on the endocrine, cardiac and central nervous systems. The anti-oxidant and neuro-protective properties of ashwagandha help to relive ‘mental fog’, enhance memory and improve brain function. Ashwagandha is also widely used as a male sexual tonic, to improve libido, cure impotence and increase fertility.

SPAGYRIC TINCTURES offer a more energetically complete herb or plant extraction. These concentrated extractions contain the three essentials – that is, the body, soul and spirit – of the herb or plant, purified and recombined in an exalted medicinal form. The spagyric technique is part of the ancient initiatic tradition of alchemy – the Art that lies at the heart of the inner traditions of the West.

Ordinary herbal tinctures only partially utilize the curative powers of the plants from which they are prepared. Spagyric tinctures are made according to unique processes which ‘open’ the plant or herb and liberate stronger curative powers. The spagyric technique of confecting herbal remedies embodies another – more synergistic – way of considering Nature and its powers.
