Description
Blue Lotus Oil is one of those amazing alchemical materials one occasionally hears about but rarely encounters. Our friend Lama Dawa Zangpo, a Shangpa Kagyu trained graduate of the traditional three-year meditation retreat performed under the auspices of the great master Kalu Rinpoche in the 1980s tells the story of how he came across this magical material.
The Blue Lotus Saga
I first encountered the sacred blue lotus of tropical Asia and ancient Egypt at an unusual elixir bar in an amazing vegan raw food restaurant in Southern California more than 12 years ago. The elixir bar was run by the gourmet chef, a special person by the name of Ito (Chef Ito) who was ten plus years into a vow of silence- he didn’t speak and only communicated by way of written notes. Perusing the store, I noticed one very small dropper bottle that was labelled simply “Blue Lotus oil”.
One sniff was all I needed to be absolutely mesmerized by this fragrance which utterly captivated me. Of course I purchased the bottle and immediately shared it with many friends, who concurred as to this intoxicatingly beautiful and otherworldly fragrance. I promptly began looking for a source of this oil, but to my disappointment, it seemed nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere – both in essential oil shops and in stores, as well as during my travels to Asia – but to no avail. Occasionally I found something calling itself “lotus” but it was never that same smell – which started to haunt me with its memory.
After more than 10 years of searching I finally found it in a tiny shop in Nepal. Its purity, rarity and preciousness were verified by my source. I purchased all that was available, and am happy to be able to share it through my Dharma brother Joseph Wagner.
Indeed, the scent of this rare flower is unlike anything we have experienced before. A true alchemical substance, we are offering it to our clients here. We have a very tiny amount and it is unsure whether more will be available in the future.
Blue lotus was reputedly used by the ancients, particularly in Egypt, for it’s spiritually sublime qualities. Ritually infused in wine and drunk ceremonially, the blue lotus is said to be an aid to meditation and visualization, and can increase lucidity in dreams. It is profoundly relaxing and some people experience an altered state of consciousness simply by smelling it. It can also be added to massage oil or a hot bath for a special treat.
In fact, my own personal experience with this material has led me to believe it is unique. Every time I inhale this fragrance I am transported into a state of thought free openness similar to being in the presence of an advanced master of meditation.
Of course, your own experience may vary, but suffice it to say it is quite magical. The oil can be placed on the wrists or simply smelled from the vial it is stored in. It can be worn as a perfume or kept on one’s shrine or meditation table to be sampled when a state of equipoise and peace is desired. 1/2mL per vial.
Note: Do Not smell or use while driving, as one may ‘space out’ and endanger oneself and others. Also, the vials are very small and the amount proportional. Please keep in mind that this material is very rare.
What people are saying:
The moment I smelled the Blue Lotus oil, it was like my brain switched off for a second—in the best, most blissful way. Almost like dropping straight into a deep meditative state. The moment you smell it, you know it’s something important and rare, and somehow alive. I’ve never had such a profound experience from a scent before.
